I remember when I was in my teens, my mother used to make some really good cleansers at home. They always gave far better results than bests of the best face cleansers available in the market. As we are coming to know the damaging effects of chemicals and other unnatural ingredients in many commercial skincare products and clean living are becoming a priority day by day, natural face cleansers are making their way back to our lives.
Today we are talking about 4 natural homemade face cleansers that will give you fantastic results. Most of them have the ingredients available in our kitchen.
Oil – The first thought that comes when we hear the oil is how oil can clean our face. But oil is one of the best cleansers out there for dry skin that cleanse the skin without ripping the natural oils off. Oil has a unique combination of natural fats that are really good for skin, for example, coconut oil has linoleic acid that helps fight acne and lauric acid a hydrating and antimicrobial. It is one of the starred method used in Hollywood to remove makeup.
How to apply – Take a squirt of oil (coconut/olive/grape/almond or any other your fav) and gently massage it on your face for 30 to 40 seconds. Wet a white microfiber towel under warm water, wring the extra water out a bit and hold the towel against your face for a few minutes. It will open the chocked pores then gently pat your face with the towel to remove the oil from your skin. Read more about Oil face cleansing here.
Honey: The sweetest face cleanser and my favourite too. It does excellent face cleansing while keeping the skin moisturized. The beauty of the honey is – it’s suitable for all the skin types and can be used alone without mixing any other ingredient.
How to apply – Take a squirt of lemon and gently massage it on your face. Leave it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes and wash with warm water.
For oily skin, add few drops of lemon juice to a half tablespoon of honey and mix them together. Gently apply the mixture on your face and leave it for 10- 15 minutes then wash with warm water. Honey and Lemon mix becomes a really good natural moisturizer and antiseptic. (I use honey and lemon mix cleanser).
For Dry skin, add milk or cream to honey. To remove makeup put a small amount of honey on a washcloth and sprinkle baking soda on it and gently use the washcloth to remove the makeup. Then wash the face gently with warm water.
Yogurt – Another gold from the old times. Yogurt is a gentle and healthy face cleanser. Combination of Protein and Lactic acid in the yogurt detoxify the skin leaving it rejuvenate and soft. Regular use of yogurt to cleanse your face will remove the dead cells through exfoliation, tighten pores, reduce the appearance of fine lines and hydrate your skin.
How to apply – Apply plain yogurt using your fingertips on your face and gently massage it. Leave the yogurt on your face for a few minutes then rinse with warm water.
Alternatively, you can add lemon juice/honey/oil as per your skin type.
Cleansing Grains – Cleansing grains are usually the powder form of herbs or foods available in our kitchen. You can use Gram flour, cornflour, rice, oats or nuts as cleansing grains. The finely ground grains mixed with lemon/honey/milk/yogurt/rosewater/glycerin/oil makes a perfect face cleanser.
How to apply – pick any finely grind grain available in your kitchen and mix with any liquid mentioned above as per your skin type – like for oily skin you can mix lemon and honey or dry skin you can use milk/yogurt/oil. Add rose water for a touch of fragrance. Gently scrub your face with the mixture for a few minutes. Keep your touch light otherwise your skin can breakout. Wash with warm water.
